BREAKING CONVENTION JOINS THE RESPONSE TO THE ECOLOGICAL CRISIS

As an educational charity dealing with the research of psychedelic substances we acknowledge and declare, based on the best scientific evidence, that the planet is in a state of ecological crisis. We are in the 6th wave of mass extinction (the last being 66 million years ago) and this extinction is anthropogenic, being due to increasing ecological degradation, habitat loss, pollution, overexploitation and climate change. Not only is the future of humanity threatened by its own current and recent collective actions, but so is the future of all species on the planet. This includes various psychedelic flora, fauna and fungi that face an uncertain existence, such as the peyote cactus which is currently 'at risk'. As organisms with psychedelic properties may constitute part of the medicine cabinet of our future, Breaking Convention as a cultural and educational organisation is declaring a state of ecological emergency and it supports efforts to educate the public on this situation.
